Arrived home safe and sound.  Pulling into the driveway I felt a sense of relief wash over me.  It’s the end and the beginning both at the same time.  I’m ready I think, to start this new adventure.  I am ready to show this new work to my community here.  I did receive a really important review.  Take a read and see if you don’t agree that it might just be the most important review I could have gotten.

Heading Home

Yesterday I saw Azusa in the rear view mirror for the last time as we pulled out of town heading back to the Northwest.  With my show packed safely in the trailer and the trailer hitched to the truck, its just a thousand miles between me and home. That separation has been the hardest part of the last four summers I think.  The rigor of the academics seemed compounded by the difficulty of being away for a month at a time.
This summer was the exception.  Dawnelle and part of the family and friends came down for the opening of the show.  It was great having that support and the show was so much more meaningful for me sharing it with them.  After all, they were the ones who sacrificed and helped make it all possible.
After the opening, Dawnelle and the kids drove back home and then she flew back last Wed. for commencement and now we are driving back together.  We made it as far as Sacramento and spent the night with my brother Tim and his wife Peggy.  We are going to hold up here for a day and then point the truck towards Portland and see how far we get.  Both of us agree we are in no hurry.  It feels good to spend time traveling and talking.  Four summers and one MFA degree later I am trying to get use to the feeling of not having assignments lurking in the back of my mind. I am trying to shake that nagging feeling of “something needs to be done.”
